History
Kavanur or Kavanoor is one of the Jain heritage centre and located 3 kms north from near Arakonam town. There is a degenerated Jinalaya in the Village, which reveals the place is more glorious in ancient years. Many Jains had been living in yesteryears. But at present there is no Jains in the village. The remnants consist of Garbahriha with narrow entry passage. So the old arthamandap and other pavilions were demolished and taken away. The crowned Viman also removed except the base beems. The wall granite blocks are separated by no bonding mortar. But luckily the non-structure layout portion of Jinalaya is vacant now. The sand stone structure influences that the temple belongs post period of 7th Century AD. Before that mud soil, lime, sand and wood were used for constructions. The village Jains might be lived in 6th Century AD or earlier. Only the descedents of origin were construct the temple. Unfortunately no Jains population is here.
