Shri Surya Pahar Digamber Jain Atishaya Kshetra, Bhatiapara, District-Goalpara (Assam)

Located about 12 km southeast from Goalpara, Surya Pahar is one of the most significant heritage sites of the ancient remains in Assam. On the southern slope of Sri Surya Pahar, there is a natural cavern made of piled stones. Within the natural caves, there are Jain carvings. Remains of these Jain affiliations in the form of inscription and rock carvings are assigned to the 9th century AD. There are two figures carved in a big granite boulder which are in low relief. The figures are shown in standing posture with their hands hanging down to the knees and their cognisance are shown below the figures in low relief. Another figure carved at the top of the hill is identified as Adinath. The figure is carved in sitting posture in the rocky outcrop and two bulls are marked at the base, the mark of cognisance of the first Tirthankara. These figures are also believed to be of the 9th century AD. क्षेत्रपरमन्दिरों की संख्या :01+2 चैत्यालय क्षेत्र पर पहाड़: हैं, ऊपर वाहन नहीं जाते हैं। ऐतिहासिकता: बहुत मनोरम पहाड़ है।लगभग 250 सीढ़ियाँ एवं गुवाहाटी से लगभग 140कि.मी.की दूरी पर गोवालपाड़ा (ग्वालपाड़ा) जिले के अन्तर्गत सूर्य पहाड़ नामक एकपर्वत है। यहाँ उत्कीर्णित जैन मूर्तियों की लोग विभिन्न देवी देवताओं के रूप में उपासना करते हैं। सन् 1975 में सूर्यपहाड़ की एक गुफा में एक चट्टान पर उकेरी भगवान आदिनाथ व प्रमाण की खगासन मूर्तियां प्राप्त हुई। सन् 1994 में पुनः श्री सुपार्श्वनाथ तीर्थंकर की एक प्राचीन मूर्ति प्राप्त हुई। पुरातत्ववेताओं ने इन मूर्तियों का निर्माण काल 8वीं शताब्दी के आस पास बताया है। पुरातत्व के आधार पर कभी यह स्थल हिन्दू, बौद्ध एवं जैन धर्मों का प्रभावशाली केन्द्र रहा। भारतवर्षीय दिगम्बर जैन महासभा ने इस क्षेत्र (सूर्य पहाड़) के विकास हेतु समिति का गठन किया। असम सरकारने क्षेत्र के विकास हेतु 52 बीघा भूमि महासभा को आबंटित की है। वार्षिक मेला : भगवान आदिनाथ का निर्वाण कल्याणक माघ कृष्ण चतुर्दशी को सन् 1994 से मनाया जाता है। प्रतिवर्षधार्मिक मेला भी आयोजित होता है।
